Does Work Define You?

In 2017, Danielle Town noted in her book Freedom, many specialized career fields like lawyers, are not concerned about their health and work-life balance. My path to work was that of dedication and proving myself. Ms. Danielle Town, also noted one of her colleagues had “mini-strokes.” Ms. Town also provides an example of a friend’s father who worked at a technology company. The father was the only higher-level manager who did not pass away or quit for health reasons, the friend stated, “he was the only that lived to obtain stock options.”

Does your work define you or set your path? For me, up until my cardiac event, the answer was yes. Many times, besides saying my name, I would say, I am a government employee or an analyst for “Uncle Sam.” Do you have this practice? Should we put work before God, family, and health? According to 1 Corinthians 11:28-29, “Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.” Daily, I examine my thoughts to make sure, I continue on my new path. My journey and road over the last six months has taken me to fascinating places, especially working on my relationships with my lovely bride and my wonderful sons. If you had a second chance, what in your life would you change or want to improve? Would you take the path less taken or follow the crowd?
